Hey guys, I really hate to do this but it’s literally a last resort. My family is not very well off and with me being in university it’s really hard. Before I arrived I had help from my older sister and some extended family members when it came to money. Unfortunately, most of my money is gone because of all the supplies I had to get and it breaks my heart every time I talk to my mom because she has worked so hard to get me here and she gets sad that she can’t do more and give me more and I have to stop myself from crying in class or wherever especially because I am not as privileged as everyone else. I’m trying to keep this from being long winded but long story short, I still have a few more supplies to get and a few more $50 fees to pay for class. I been paying for supplies as I need them but I am starting to need more expensive things and I don’t have enough in my checking account to pay for it all. I put a PayPal link on my blog so it’d mean a lot if you donated even something as small as $1 or whatever. I also sell shirts if you would like to purchase any of those you can as well—I make $5 commission. I’m sorry if this is an inconvenience and I wanted to wait til I got my grant refund but that won’t be until a few more weeks. If you can’t donate it’d mean a lot if you reblogged this. Again, I’m sorry if this is annoying but it’s my only option at the moment.

I just got an anon and they were confused so some of you may be but here I posted pics of supply lists if you need more proof. I’m not looking to keep the donate button on my blog for more than maybe 1-3 weeks (depending on when I get my grant refund) but once I get my refund I’ll get rid of it. Again, this was a last resort and I don’t want anyone to feel like I am trying to be sneaky or anything. Thank you to everyone who reblogged this and donated it means a lot honestly <3

So far, Steven’s powers have been:A bright pink shieldA bright pink bubbleMagical healing saliva
And he is always STOPPING fights, usually peacefully and in nonviolent ways, trying to get both sides to get along and understand each other. Suffice it to say, he is not your typical superhero. In fact, he’s really not that super yet. He’s still on training wheels. And yet he often manages to end conflicts WITHOUT powers or weapons that destroy others.
And I love what this show is doing with him and all of his friends. Especially in a pop culture that is overpopulated these days with “save the world” shenanigans and focusing on powers and shock value instead of being “strong in the real way.”
I’m already proud of this little guy and the small steps he’s made. His journey isn’t one of leaps and bounds but baby steps, like real people.
This week’s wonderful two-parter has set up what the show has been foreshadowing for some while: that Steven, being half Human and half Gem, will forge a path that unites both kinds of beings — a path paved by acts of non-violence, understanding, and compassion. Where his merit and strength as a hero isn’t defined by his powers (which, BTW, completely fly in the face of typical superhero and gender role BS), but instead by HIS CHOICES.
And THAT is the kind of hero story we need these days, IMO.
I’m sick of watching characters save the world from evil.
I want to see characters saving themselves, saving each other — personal journeys about making choices and resolving conflicts, not just slapping “evil” around. Even SU’s plot twists don;t feel cheap. They feel rewarding, because they are always foreshadowed and always recontextualize earlier events that maybe didn’t make sense. They feel planned, thought out, CARED for, just like the characters who populate the world.
Steven’s story, especially given the moral ambiguities brought to the table recently, really has a lot of potential to do these things — to be a personal journey more than typical “destroy evil” stuff — and in many ways, it has already.
I believe in Steven.

Don’t forget we have to wake up Green Day tomorrow.

Ok just a reminder to everyone: If you’re planning on tweeting billie joe armstrong “wake up” or something tomorrow, DON’T. The song is about his father’s death and so it’s really personal and treating it like a joke isn’t the right thing to do. Plus he’s asked so many times for people to stop and no one listens so yeah. Please don’t do that.

Well Tumblr it’s that time of the year again. It’s heart breaking I even have to remind people of this.

As we approach the Halloween season if you have a black cat [especially an indoor/outdoor one] it’s time to make sure they stay inside. Unfortunately around this time of the year people think it’s funny to harass and harm them. It makes me sick to my stomach but some people even go as far as to ‘sacrifice’ them. Most adoption groups won’t even adopt them out during this month. I’ve even heard of people trying to harass them when they see them sitting in windows of houses. It’s horrible and not funny but it’s important to protect them.

So if you or anyone you know has a black cat make sure they are aware of where the cat is. And if you see anyone hurting or harassing them [or any cat!] speak up, they can’t do it for themselves.

Reblogging because I’d cut a bitch if they hurt my baby boy, Ninja

As the owner of two beautiful black kitties it sickens me to my core that this happens. Luckily I live out in the middle of nowhere and my kitties are both indoor kitties but I hope everyone else in more congested areas keep their kitties safe!

This is why I’m really glad that Molly is an indoor cat and we have darkened windows.

Although this goes for cats in general this time of year, I’ve heard of a few incidents of this kind of thing happening to black cats in particular. Since I have a black cat, I feel it’s my job to spread this for any of my followers whose fluffy friends might be in similar danger from crazy people.

This perfectly summarizes why I love the Simpsons and hate Family Guy.

Yup.

So this.

I watched that episode with my family and I could just feel how uncomfortable everyone was. Honestly, it was a really jarring, unpleasant episode.

Homer is a terrible dad. So is Peter. But Homer’s saving grace has always been that he tries—he’s bad at it and he fucks it up a lot, but he loves his family and he wants to be better than he is.

One of my favorite Homer moments is in “Diatribe of a Mad Housewife.” Tl;dr Marge writes a steamy romance novel starring herself and Ned, and when Homer finds out, he chases down Ned and, rather than attack him, asks him to teach him how to be a better husband.

There’s some part of his stupid self that wants to do better.

I never got that impression with Peter. Instead, the family has gotten more and more abusive towards Meg. It’s really unsettling for me when I started realizing that’s what happens sometimes in abusive families. Abusers sometimes single out one child to abuse, and quite often the other family members take the abuser’s side. After all, it’s easier to side with an abuser than to run the risk of becoming the target yourself.

There’s never really a point where it seems like Peter cares at all that his shitty behavior impacts his family. It actually seems to have gotten worse over the years. He expects everyone to clean up his messes because that’s always what happens; there’s really no reason for him not to be shitty.

And it’s easy to see how Meg is affected. She doesn’t have much of a character, really, because so much her screen time is devoted to being abused. The bits of character development all seem to hinge on her being this sad, neglected person who’s trying her best but never really gets any help from anyone. Quite the opposite; there have been a lot of episodes where her family sabotages any attempts to be herself.

It can be easy to forget how awful this behavior is when the only context is the show itself (frankly, everyone on Family Guy is kind of terrible). Seeing it played against the Simpsons, who are a flawed and dysfunctional but ultimately loving family, was painful to watch.
